The AF865 flight from the Chadian capital N’Djamena landed at Charles de Gaulle Airport after being “escorted by a French Air Force fighter plane” due to the “anonymous threat”, Air France said.
Several hours after the incident, French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said fears that an explosive device might be on board had been proven wrong. No such device was found.
Darmanin also said a crisis committee with representatives from various ministries had been convened and terminated.
The French government said in a statement that the plane landed “without incident” at 4:01 pm local time (10:01 am ET) and was “isolated” and “taken over by the authorities”.
Passengers have been evacuated and authorities are investigating the incident, the statement said.
