Diego Llorente becomes the second Spanish player to test positive for Covid-19 as Luis Enrique’s plans for Euro 2020 suffer another setback as his squad is already isolated after captain Sergio Busquets’ coronavirus case
The Spanish national team has been rocked by a second case of coronavirus, with defender Diego Llorente most recently testing positive.
Luis Enrique’s preparations for Euro 2020 were thwarted by Covid-19, as a U21 team had to play a friendly against Lithuania instead of the senior team on Tuesday evening.
The unknown team was called into action after Spain’s captain Sergio Busquets tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday and sent the entire senior national team and coaching staff into isolation.

Six senior players – Kepa Arrizabalaga, Raul Albiol, Brais Mendez, Pablo Fornals, Rodrigo Moreno and Carlos Soler – have been called up to train in a parallel bubble in case multiple substitutions are required.

But now there has been another case in the senior team where Leeds defender Llorente tested positive, the Spanish Football Association said on Tuesday evening.
A statement said: “The RFEF regrets to announce that center-back Diego Llorente tested positive in the last PRC tests held at the national team base this morning (Tuesday).
“He’ll be leaving tonight in a medical vehicle, following established health protocols. The squad will continue to work with the routines established in COVID-19 situations.
‘Personalized training will be maintained to continue preparation for the European Championships.
“The training sessions for the players in the parallel bubble will resume on Wednesday at 11:00 am under the command of Luis Enrique in response to the setbacks of the past few days.”

The President of the Spanish Football Association Luis Rubiales also warned on Tuesday that there will likely be more Covid-19 cases in their squad after Busquet’s positive result.
Rubiales also criticized the decision of the national broadcaster Television Espanola (TVE) not to broadcast the Lithuania game on its flagship channel La 1 as originally planned, but to move the game to its sister broadcaster Teledeporte.
“I hope that you (TVE) would treat the national team, a team for all Spaniards, with more love and respect,” said Rubiales.
“Especially in fragile times like now. We have one positive case, there could well be more positive cases, there probably will be more.
“But these players deserve respect, as does the badge on their shirts.”
