Jasper Cillessen FUMES at Holland boss Frank de Boer, after he was removed from the squad of the EM 2020 after a positive Covid test and said he felt “powerless” against the ax …
Dutch goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen is furious about Frank de Boer’s decision to drop him just days before Euro 2020 after his positive Covid test.
The Valencia shot stopper, originally called up in Holland’s last 26-person squad, tested positive for coronavirus last week before being told on Tuesday that he will no longer appear in this month’s tournament.
De Boer decided instead to call AZ’s Marco Bizot in his place before submitting his final squad to UEFA by midnight that day, despite telling Cillessen that if he tested negative, he would be reinstated.

However, with Cillessen not traveling to the team’s training camp in Portugal on Sunday due to his testing, he was told to stay home feeling “powerless, angry and terrible” at the decision.
“It’s a massive blow that will reverberate for a while,” he told the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.
“De Boer knew then that I had tested positive. He then said on Sunday in Portugal that I would join the group immediately if the result of my daily rapid test were negative. If necessary, I would only join after the training camp. I really have no idea what has changed.

“The rules allow goalkeeper substitutions during the tournament and there was still a long time. I had Covid symptoms for a day but otherwise zero problems. And then do you say I’m not fit? The national coach and I will never agree on that.
“I have never felt so powerless, angry and terrible.
“I don’t want to say things that harm people. I don’t think it’s appropriate to give everything now, because my teammates are about to start the European Championship and we as the Dutch national team have only one goal: to give our best at the European Championship. “
De Boer admitted skipping Valenica’s No. 1 wasn’t easy, saying the decision made him “incredibly pissed”.
Cillessen had just returned from a long-term injury during an injury-related season in Valencia
“I informed Jasper of my decision this morning. Let me say that I think that’s incredibly pissed off for Jasper, ”said the Dutch coach on Tuesday.
“But I had to make the decision. He is known to have tested positive for the coronavirus (and) missed an important part of the preparation.
“We don’t know how long it will take before he’s 100 percent fit again. I don’t want to take any chances. We are on the eve of a European Championship and I want to be certain. “
Substitute goalkeeper Bizot has already trained with the Netherlands, making his move to the team easy despite Cillessen’s absence.

But it’s an unfortunate time for the Valencia goalkeeper who has suffered various injuries over the season.
A mixture of knee and muscle problems limited the Dutchman to only 10 appearances this season, with Cillessen also missing the last two international breaks due to cancellation.
Norwich goalkeeper Krul, who recently secured promotion to the top division with the Canaries and traveled with Holland in the last two tournaments, is expected to represent in Cillessen’s absence.
