“His ankle is struggling with pain,” said Los Angeles coach Frank Vogel afterwards. “We have decided not to bring him back.”
James played for the second time in 20 missed games due to the injured ankle. He said it aggravated him at halftime in both games.
Vogel and James both waited to see if the striker could play against Denver.
“The plan is to see how I feel and go from there,” said James.
James also thought about the bigger picture.
“The most important thing for me is to be healthy and in full strength when it really counts,” said James.
James recorded 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists against Toronto as the slumped Lakers lost for the sixth time in seven games. They have been 0-2 since James returned.
“I think our team is based on health,” said James. “This is number one for our ball club. We have to be healthy and develop our full strength.”
