Manchester United “has NOT ended their interest in Jadon Sancho” and may be tempted to switch to the Borussia Dortmund winger again despite talks crumbling last summer
- Jadon Sancho was Manchester United’s main target last year
- However, the deal never materialized as no conditions could be agreed with Borussia Dortmund
- Move is not dead and United could visit the transfer again this summer
Manchester United could repeat a move for Borussia Dortmund and England star Jadon Sancho this summer.
Last year, United saw the end of the wing game disappointed when they failed to agree on terms and the 21-year-old stayed with the Bundesliga.
The Manchester Evening News now reports that the Old Trafford Club could get the talks going again.
Manchester United was unable to agree a transfer fee for Jadon Sancho with Dortmund last year
Erling Haaland is still the Dortmund man who is of the greatest interest to United. After negotiations with Sancho’s agent Emeka Obasi were finalized last year, they may reopen to the winger.
The Dortmund managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke admitted last week that the club was ready to sell Sancho for an “extraordinary offer”.
“I’m not concerned with probabilities, it’s not good. Jadon Sancho has been with us a lot longer than Erling Haaland. We need to speak to Jadon too, ”he said.
“If there is an exceptional offer we will, as always, discuss it with the player and the agent.”
The Englishman has 16 assists in all competitions despite injuries
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is unlikely to give priority to the winger, but a deal could still be tempting
United have recruited Amad Diallo and Facundo Pellistri for a total of £ 46m and both young players play on the right side, as does Sancho.
And while a transfer is less likely than last season, Sancho’s depreciation could be tempting.
Finances affected by pandemics mean a lower transfer fee, and the bad Bundesliga season in Dortmund – it is seven points below the Champions League places – has made an exit for a reasonable sum more realistic.
The MEN report that United was surprised by Sancho’s salary demands and little progress was made at the negotiating table.
The former Manchester City Academy starlet is under contract in Dortmund until 2023 and has managed to score 12 goals and get 16 assists this season despite fighting injuries.
United have a forward and a center-back but may be tempted to sign Sancho again this summer.
