A body found in a pocket 3,000 feet below the surface of the Atlantic Ocean off Tenerife is “almost certain” that of the missing six-year-old girl Olivia Gimeno, the Spanish authorities said.
The schoolgirl has not been seen since her father was kidnapped by her fugitive father on April 27, along with her little sister Anna.
Last month Interpol issued so-called “yellow notices” for the girls – a step to identify missing persons, often minors, or persons who cannot identify themselves.

Anna and Olivia disappeared with their father Tomas (pictured) and triggered a huge search
Olivia’s and Anna’s mother, who is divorced from her father Tomas, claims he told her she would never see him or her daughters again.
Now authorities say a body believed to be Olivias was found in a gym bag deep underwater and weighed down by an anchor.
However, the discovery has also raised fears that one-year-old Anna’s body may never be found if it’s in the travel bag.
The girls’ mother, Beatriz Zimmerman, was informed of the discovery.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez tweeted: “I cannot imagine the pain of little Anna and Olivia’s mother, who disappeared in Tenerife after the terrible news we just heard.
“I send a hug and my love and that of my whole family, who today show solidarity with Beatrice and her loved ones.”
A spokesman for the investigating judge, who is responsible for the ongoing judicial investigations, gave an update on Thursday evening.
He said: “Except for more conclusive forensic tests, the body could almost certainly be the same as that of Olivia G, the youth who disappeared on April 27 with her one-year-old sister and father.
“The body was found at noon today by a robot from the search ship Angeles Alvarino about 1,000 meters underwater about five kilometers off the coast of Tenerife.
“It was in a gym bag tied to an anchor. Next to it was another empty gym bag.
“The body was brought ashore for an autopsy. The ship named Angeles Alvarino continues its search. ‘

When the disappearance first emerged, a huge social media campaign was launched to help and support the girls’ mother.
The call was supported by a number of high profile figures, including soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo’s partner Georgina Rodriguez.
“They are two sisters who are being sought in Spain and abroad. Their names are Olivia and Anna and they are six and one years old.
“Your mother is doing her best to get the maximum promotion for this video in order to find her and get her home as soon as possible.
“I hope with all my heart that the girls will be found safe and that they will soon be able to hug their mothers again.”
