A British woman was murdered by a gunman on Monday in a rented house in Pakistan.
Mayra Zulfiqar, 26, was shot and strangled in the Lahore Defense District after armed men were believed to have stormed into her home and bedroom.
Police said they are looking for two suspects. They are reportedly competing for the hand of the woman in marriage, raising suspicions that killing may be a crime of passion.
Zulfiqar is believed to have moved from Pakistan to the UK about two months ago, where she studied at Middlesex University after attending school in Twickenham.
According to the Independent Urdu, the victim’s uncle – Mohammad Nazeer, who had visited his niece a few days ago – filed a First Incident Report (FIR) with the police, accusing two men of being behind the murder of his niece.

The Lahore native complained that two of her friends – referred to by Dawn.com as Zahir Jadoon and Saad Ameer Butt – threatened and molested her so that she was afraid of hearing life with “dire consequences,” according to the report.
The FIR states that the woman’s uncle said he would confront the two friends about their actions, but around 2 p.m. Monday the uncle received a call from her father in London stating that she had been shot, the reported Point of sale.
The uncle claims that Zulfiqar was killed in a conspiracy by two friends along with two other unknown people in the early hours of Monday morning, according to Independent Urdu.
According to the report, one of the victim’s friends tried to force her to marry him but was in competition with another.
Zulfiqar had refused to marry both of them, and her uncle is now seeking legal action against the two he accused of murdering, the outlet reported.
According to SHO Qasim, a police officer involved in the investigation, the investigators are investigating whether her death was due to the gunshot wound or whether strangulation was also involved.
Zulfiqar had come to the country two months ago from the UK, where her family is from, Police Commissioner Sayyed Ali told Dawn.com.
Mr Sayyed told reporters that Zulfiqar’s girlfriend lived in an upstairs room and was helping the police with their investigation.
The officer said they had been alerted to the apparent murder by an unknown caller and that forensic scientists had cordoned off the scene.

The woman’s parents and other family members living abroad were contacted, Mr. Sayyed noted.
“We are also after two suspects and will provide more details at a later date,” police said, adding that Zulfiqar’s friend did not provide any details that could help in their investigation.
He added that Zulfiqar’s body had been taken to a morgue for autopsy. Police said no arrests have been made so far.
Her parents are supposed to travel to Pakistan.
