Underwood questioned this support after Morgan’s negative comments were criticized as being racially justified after Prince Harry and Meghan’s interview with media mogul Oprah Winfrey.
Underwood opened the episode on Monday by stating that it was the first time in the studio since the incident with Osbourne and her exit from the show.
“We have to process the events of this day and the events since, so that we can get to the healing,” said Underwood. “For the next hour, we’ll be honestly discussing what happened and examining some of our feelings. We’ll also show you how anyone can be more comfortable discussing important issues and difficult conversations.”
The show was briefly suspended after the debate and allegations surfaced in an article by journalist Yashar Ali that Osbourne used racist and homophobic language while speaking about her former colleagues on the CBS talk show.
Ali quoted former “Talk” co-host Leah Remini, who spoke on the play’s record, as well as a number of unnamed sources.
CNN has not independently verified the allegations. A Remini spokeswoman confirmed the accuracy of her statements reported by Ali and declined further comments when contacted by CNN.
“The only thing worse than an angry former employee is an angry former talk show host,” he said in a statement to CNN. “For 11 years, Sharon has been kind, collegial and kind to her hosts, as evidenced by her throwing parties, inviting her to the UK and other gestures of kindness too many to name. Sharon is disappointed but unfazed and hardly surprised by the lies, the rewrite of the story and the bitterness that reveals at that moment. “
Osbourne was the only remaining original cast member on “The Talk,” which made its 2010 debut.
On Monday’s episode, Underwood and her colleagues Carrie Ann Inaba, Amanda Kloots and Elaine Welteroth welcomed diversity, equity, inclusion and justice experts, Dr. Donald E. Grant for advice on discussing racial issues and nationally recognized trauma therapist and life coach. Anita Phillips, who shared expertise on how to heal after a painful event or conversation.
