She was arrested and detained on Thursday for “sports corruption and fraud in an organized group affecting activities that may have been committed in September 2020,” according to Paris prosecutors.
Sizikova was arrested shortly after losing her first-round double at Roland Garros on Thursday, a senior Paris police source told CNN.
The 26-year-old is suspected of match fixing in 2020 when, according to the source, she purposely lost a double game in last year’s Roland Garros tournament.
CNN tried to reach a Sizikova representative for comment during theThe International Tennis Integrity Agency said it was a matter for the French police.
The Russian Tennis Association told the Russian state news agency TASS that it is waiting for documents to arrest the Russian tennis player.
“This is a long history. There is an organization investigating temporary games, this story has been going on since October. We cannot do anything until the documents are published. We are waiting,” Federation President Shamil Tarpishchev told TASS.
TASS also reported that the Russian embassy in France is taking the necessary measures to protect Sizikova’s rights.
The French Tennis Federation confirmed the arrest of Sizikova but was unable to comment due to the ongoing investigation.
